Transalpina is the highest road in Romania and in the entire Carpathian Mountains, both from the country and abroad, reaching its maximum altitude (2145 m) in the Urdele Pass. Also known as the King’s Road, Transalpina crosses the Parang Mountains from N to S, being parallel to the Olt Valley and the Jiu Valley, between which it is located, and connects the Saliste Locality in Sibiu County to the Novaci Locality in Gorj County. The picturesque landscapes crossed by Transalpina through the Parang Mountains delight the eyes of all those who cross this route, being considered one of the most spectacular roads.
Being an alpine road, it is closed to public traffic throughout the winter due to massive snowfalls between the Ranca resort and Obarsia Lotrului.
Dana Guesthouse is located 35 km from Novaci, where the road to Transalpina starts.
